Tasks / Deliverables Summary of Role The Security Architect will provide senior-level security architecture leadership supporting Defence programs, including Military Command and Control (C2), Communications and Information Systems, and ISTAR / Land C4ISR environments. The resource will be responsible for defining secure system architectures, governance frameworks, and enterprise security strategies, and for ensuring security is embedded by design across complex, mission-critical systems. The role includes supporting risk management, compliance, security operations, and executive decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Lead security architecture and engineering activities using secure-by-design principles and industry best practices.
Assess and mitigate system vulnerabilities using security engineering and risk management principles.
Develop and maintain security governance, policies, standards, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
Design organizational communication and network security architectures, including VPN solutions, encryption, cryptography, and key management strategies.
Design and implement enterprise identity and access management (IAM) strategies.
Define and oversee security operations, including logging, monitoring, event investigation, and incident management.
Provide architectural direction and technical authority for secure system designs.
Lead and support security architecture reviews, threat and risk assessments, and design assurance activities.
Prepare and review technical concept documents, system specifications, and technical proposals.
Provide senior-level advice, guidance, and recommendations to program leadership and stakeholders.
Lead or contribute to multidisciplinary teams delivering complex Defence systems.
Requirements
Security Clearance: Must be eligible for Secret level Federal Security Clearance (generally requires 10 years of residence in Canada)
Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada
Education:
Master’s degree in software, computer, systems, electrical, or a suitable engineering or technical field (preferred), OR
Bachelor’s degree in software, computer, systems, electrical, or a suitable engineering or technical field from a recognized post-secondary institution
Certifications:
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in Canada is mandatory
CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) is mandatory
Minimum 144 months experience in at least 4 of the following areas
Security architecture and secure engineering design practices
Vulnerability assessment and risk mitigation
Security governance, compliance, policy, and standards development
Network and communications security architecture (VPN, cryptography, encryption, key management)
