Infrastructure Capacity and Performance Management

  • Ownership of all capacity planning activities and processes 
  • Annual Capacity Plan creation, analysis and recommended programs 
  • Definition and ownership of key business metrics to be captured for systems and applications 
  • Guidelines for project performance requirements and metrics 
  • Guidelines for capacity and performance monitoring and measurement tools and day to day operational activities around capacity and performance 
  • Capacity reports monthly, quarterly and annually 
  • Assess existing capacity and create forecasts based on future plans for demand 
  • Create capacity plans for increasing capacity and performance ahead of need 
  • Define key business metrics for systems and applications 
  • Participate in design meetings providing guidance from a capacity perspective 
  • Participate in problem SWAT teams providing analysis and recommendations from a capacity perspective 
  • Assist with diagnosing performance-related incidents and problems 
  • Work with Architecture and DevOps to define project resource requirements and performance metrics 
  • Guide the implementation of changes related to capacity 
  • Work with internal partners and external suppliers to provide capacity reports and recommendations 
  • As required, staff and run a team to perform these responsibilities 
  • On an ongoing basis, conduct supply/demand and trend analysis and provide recommendations for proactive capacity planning to mitigate risk and rationalize the optimal amount of hardware, software and network resources to meet business needs, service level requirements and IT infrastructure growth capacity.

  • Advanced level understanding of server performance and server CPU/memory capacity topics. Operating system and server architecture knowledge of VMware, Linux, Solaris and Windows systems 
  • Understanding of enterprise infrastructure technology (OS, SAN, Storage, Local Storage, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, Network, Telephony, Exadata, Teradata, Cloud, Hadoop, data center, etc.) 
  • Analytical skills as it relates to performance of IT systems 
  • MUST hold a valid Reliability level federal government security clearance
  • Academic : Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, related field or equivalent experience 
  • Certifications/Skills : ITIL Foundations and Capacity certification preferred 
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ of capacity planning experience 
  • Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in progressively advancing roles within IT 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and negotiation 
  • Excellent understanding of technologies (current and emerging) 
DURATION: 6 months plus possible conversion to permanent
